Sending Photo Attachments in Outlook 2003.

I've just switched over from a computer with Windows XP Home to a new
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 computer. Both are running Outlook 2003.

I want to attach photos to an email. On either computer after opening
up a new email, I click on Insert | Picture, then browse to “My
Pictures” to select the desired file(s).

On my XP computer, on the “Insert Attachment” window, I can browse
thumbnails of the actual photos. But, unless I'm missing something,
in Outlook on the Windows 7 computer, all I can see in the “Insert
Attachment” box are a set of identical generic icons. These aren’t
very useful as most are simply numbered to match my photos' file
names.

Is there something else to be done?

I followed your advice. But the result on the Windows 7, Outlook 2003
machine is unchanged – that is, the thumbnails are all displaying the
identical generic picture. The Windows XP Outlook 2003 computer
behaves correctly, displaying the miniature versions of each picture.

Is this possibly a Windows 7 problem?

That screenshot was from win7, so its not win7, but it might be related to
outlook 2003 on win7. Let me check... it works on win7/outlook 2003 too -
the explorer dialog is slightly different but the View button is there and
it works -

It took a couple of minutes to build the thumbnail cache the first time I
viewed the folder. I thought that was a bit long considering there isn't
that much stuff in the folder (40 files).

Thanks for your help.

I followed your advice. But the result on the Windows 7 Outlook 2003
machine is unchanged – that is, the thumbnails all display the
identical generic picture. The Windows XP Outlook 2003 computer
behaves correctly, displaying the miniature versions of each picture.

I waited ten minutes – no change. There’s another curiosity. When I
first click on Insert|Picture, all the choices (Clip Art, From File,
etc..) are grayed out. I click Insert|Picture a second time, and I
get all the normal choices.

FWIW I actually have three computers – two have Win 7 64 bit and
Outlook 2003. Both of them behave identically as I've described.

Another question – I also have a copy of Office 2007, which I've never
installed because I dislike the ribbon. Is it possible that this is a
problem limited to Outlook 2003?
