Attaching photo to email

Mutt

I use Vista and Windows Mail and am trying to send a photo attached to an
email.
I go into Pictures, highlight the photo which brings up a box asking me to
choose a size for the photo, then when I have chosen the size a new email
with the photo attached appears ready to be sent. So far so good. However,
there is a message at the top saying "This email has not been sent". When I
have added the recipient's address and click on "send" the email disappears
but does not arrive at the recipient's address nor is it saved in my "Sent"
box. Can anyone help please?
