Sending personalized e-mail merge messages on behalf of another us

I am trying to send out a large number of e-mails that are personalized. I
know how to configure and send the merged e-mails, however I cannot send them
on behalf of another user. It automatically defaults to my Inbox. Is there
a way of sending an e-mail merge and being able to choose the "from field"?

Not with any version of Office. I have not investigated whether the third-party tools listed at http://www.slipstick.com/addins/mail.htm#massmail provide that capability.
