Sending in Outlook

In the last 3 weeks, I have had a problem with sending my mail.
It comes in fine, but but when sending gives me an error.
IF I reboot my computer it goes straight out.
Any idea on what could be causing this and what I can do?
My husband states to re install XP, but not sure that would fix it.
I did use the office disc to 'repair', but it did not solve the problem.
It usually does it every day, but today it has done it twice already.

What is the error message (in its entirety), what version of Outlook, and
what type of mail account?
