sending email from outlook express

The email message I am trying to send is not sent and
stays in the outbox folder. I have not encountered any
problems with incoming mail. An error message is
received "an unknown eror has occured, ....." This
problem existed with my wired cable networking equipment
and now continues with my wireless connection.
Please help!
