Send/Receive Error Message

E

Ed Wood

I recently reinstalled Office 2007 after a disk format. Now, when I try to
send an email from Outlook, I get the following error message.

Task 'edward_wood - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC80) : 'None of the
authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server.'

Does anyone know why I am getting this message and how to correct the
problem? I have tried running the repair program on the MS Office 2007 disk,
and the problem persists.

Thanks for your help.

Do you have AV installed and configured to scan incoming and outgoing email?
You will want to either disable this or uninstall your AV software and
reinstall it, and not configure the component that scans incoming and
outgoing mail. This won't compromise your security, your real time scanner
will still be working.

You may also want to verify that your ISP has not changed their server
settings. Visit their website and double-check. Maybe you set SPA or SMTP
Authentication when you shouldn't or you didn't set it when you should.

If you are not on the same network as the provider of your mail account
you'll need to configure your outgoing server (SMTP) for authentication.

If all is set correctly and still not working create a new mail profile:

Dear K. Orland,

Yes, I do have some AV software installed that scans outgoing email. I have
two different programs, Norton's Security Center, and Webroot's Spysweeper. I
will give your suggestion a try.

Thanks for your help. Have a great weekend!

Norton doesn't play well with Outlook. Look for any Add Ins in Outlook as
well and remove them. Then send Norton to stand in the corner...

Kathleen,

I think that the problem is somewhere else. I uninstalled all three of the
AV software that I have on my computer (Norton's Security Center, Webroot's
Antivirus and Sypware, and Macrovirus), shut down my computer, did a cold
reboot, and tried again. Same result, the same error message. I am using
BellSouth/AT&T as my ISP with a medium speed DSL connection. I have a NetGear
Max Range "N" router, and a Westtel 6100 DSL Modem.

Besides all that, Outlook 2007 was working just fine with this configuration
before I had to reformat my hard disk and reinstall Windows XP Professional
because XP would not recognize my JVC GR-D72 USB connection to the computer
to d/ slides. I could select "Start", "Run" and type in "G:" and see the
memory card in my camera through the USB connection, but drive "G" (I have
two (2) physical 250gb hard drives ["C", "D", "E"], and a DVD burner "F") did
not show up in "My Computer."

That leads me to believe that the problem is somewhere either in Outlook
2007 or Windows XP Pro. You said to look for add-ins in Outlook. Just exactly
how do I do that, and where do I look? I do not see any tab labeled "add-ins"
in Outlook.

Have a great day!

I'm not using 2007 yet, but Coms and Add Ins are location in Tools > Options
Other > Advanced. Or similar in your version.

Make sure you have applied all the latest service packs for both Office and
XP. You can always reapply them which is sometimes recommended. If you make a
change to the operating system or Office at some point, even unintentionally,
the latest SP can need to be installed again.

The error states that none of the authentication methods supported by this
client are supported by the server, are you using SSL perhaps and your server
isn't?

You are using 'mail.bellsouth.net' for both outgoing (SMTP) and incoming
(SMTP)? You have checked, "My server requires authentication"? And you have
unchecked, "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)"?

That last has been known to trip folks up; it is only required by certain
MSFT servers. The AT&T Worldnet Service mail servers which handle AT&T
FastAccess (formerly Bellsouth) email don't require it.

Thanks to K. Orland and N. Miller for their responses. N. Miller hit the nail
right on the head.

The "My server requires authentication?" button was indeed checked. I guess
that I somehow overlooked that little fact when I set up the account.

That was the problem. Bu unchecking that option, email sending seems to be
working just fine now. Thanks to both of your for your help.

Have a great week!

I had the same issue, I tried everything.... I finally got my account working
by turning off the Microsoft firewall, testing the connection, then turning
the firewall back on..

Don't know if this was the "magic" solution, as I said I tried everything
else.

All I am experienceing a similar issue That just started after onth's of no
problems with outlook 2007. I get the the authentication error 0X800CCC80.
There were no setting changes. It just stopped working. I've confirmed the
account settings with AT&T. I've turned off the Norton 360 Componets that
could effect email including firewall and still can not connect. I would
hate to have to create a whole new profile or reinstall Outlook2007. Does
anyone have other suggestions of What else to try. And yes, my outgoing
server is using the same settings as my incoming server. SPA has never been
checked as well, as server requires encrypted connection. AT&T was not that
helpful

K

Kevin

Hi Dan,

Click More Setting->Advance tab, Make sure "This server requires an
encrypted connection(SSL)" is unchecked, and also make sure "Use the
following type of encrypted connection" is set to "Auto"

then you should be good to go!

Kevin
