My apologies for a simple question.

How do I get Outlook to send and receive once immediately on starting the
program?

I can do this easily enough in OE but I simply cannot work out how to do it
in Outlook.

Do you have an automatic polling interval checked?

After furious head scratching, Zboing Mouflon asked:

| Yes I have that box ticked.
|
| It doesn't seem to do it, however.

No because I don't want it to.

I'll set it for 1 week or something.

Nope. You have to click Send/Receive from that dialogue before you see it.

So I see the box 'Send Immediately' box on this same screen as the
'Send/Receive' button, as per my previous message. Both in OUTLOOK 2003 and
OUTLOOK 2007.

But that doesn't control what the OP was asking about. Go back and read the
original question. The OP asked how to make Outlook perform a send/receive
upon startup. The "Send immediatly" option does NOT control that. Thanks
for trying, though.
