Did you purchase Windows XP seperately from your computer?
Was it a retail boxed product? If so, was it a Full or Upgrade product?
Are you purchasing a FULL version of Windows XP Pro or an upgrade?

If you got XP with your computer (like you have a Dell or something) -> You
cannot sell it, legally. It is tied to the first computer it is installed
on. If your copy you purchased (even seperately) is labeled as an OEM copy,
the same rule applies.

By retailed box, I mean did you buy it at a store and did it come with a
nice container/etc? If so, you are able to sell it provided it is no longer
on your computer and it was not an Upgrade version or you give your parents
the original OS you upgraded from (provided it did not come with the
computer in question and itself was an OEM version - thus it and the upgrade
are permanently (legally) attached to the computer in question.

When you buy a copy of Windows XP Pro, are you purchasing a full version of
Windows XP Pro or an upgrade version? If upgrade, then no - your original
XP Home license is now attached to the upgrade situation. However if a full
version, then no problems (if you are purchasing through your school
(college/university) - then you are purchasing an UPGRADE version.. So you
cannot sell the XP Home (legally.))

Greetings --

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:
