Been Googling attempting to find a small program that will allow me to create a
slide show from images that will self execute.

I found these two and the second appears to be registry ware:

Does anybody have any suggestions?

==== if you want to send pictures to someone else , you want a
slideshow program that wont write to their registry, there are some
small slide show type programs
that just show pictures and don't load anything to the other persons
computer,
like ; "vueslide" from... http://www.hamrick.com/arc.html

Have a look at VueSlide:
<quote> VueSlide is a free utility for distributing slide shows on CD-ROM or
floppy disk. To run VueSlide, put vueslide.exe on a CD-ROM or floppy disk
along with a set of .gif, .jpg, and .bmp images. When you run vueslide.exe,
it will play a slide show of these images, with a 5 second delay between
images. If you put autorun.inf on a CD-ROM along with vueslide.exe, the
slide show will automatically start when you insert the CD-ROM.</quote>

¶ Whose cruel idea was it to put an "s" in the word "lisp"?

I use PhotoPlayer to make slideshows on CD that can play music while
showing the slides. It's great. Here's the info from the help file.

===================

UniDream PhotoPlayer (PP) is a GREEN program specially designed for
playing multimedia files on CDs as well as on hard drives. It features
automatic search and play, background music and image, slide
transition effects, multiple display modes and view styles, captions
with adjustable fonts, dynamic and multiple play intervals, CD autorun
and much more. It supports most common graphic formats including
animated GIF and all media files supported by Microsoft Windows Media
Player

PP is freeware for personal use, which means the distribution of PP
with your digital photos is limited to yourself, friends or families.
Commercial distribution of PhotoPlayer personal edtion with your
products is prohibited.

PP is compatible with all versions of Microsoft Windows including
Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2K and XP. However, its function may be
limited in some versions of Windows.

For Windows 95/98, Microsoft DirectX 8 is necessary to play music or
movies. For Windows 95, Microsoft Common Controls library 4.72 or
above is required to display its menus and toolbars correctly.

PP does not play music or movies under Windows NT4 since NT4 does not
support Microsoft DirectX.

Had played around with Irfranview some time back. Was hoping to find
something a bit smaller without all the additional bells and whistles.

Bell and whistles in IrfanView? It's a pretty darn simple set-up, there.
