Self executing files

Hi

I want to put a ppt pres on a cd and make it self executing so that when the
end users put it in their machine, the pres automatically runs. Is there a
way to do that? Also, if there is a way, can it be done so that they don't
need to have the program resident on their machine?

thx.

Yes. It's always important to include the version of PowerPoint that you are
using. Package for CD was added in PowerPoint 2003.

heh, some days the timing just works that way.

Package for CD will do exactly what you want.
http://www.echosvoice.com/autoruncd2.htm (included in that FAQ link I posted
earlier) gives you a quickie walkthrough for PPT 2003 (and 2002, for that
matter, but you don't need that part).

Do you have music or video or anything like that in your presentation?

G

as a matter of fact, I do have music that I want looped - it's a wma file and
get a message saying that ppt cannot insert a sound from the selected file -
I've checked the file and it plays fine in RealPlayer. any thoughts on that
one?

E

Echo S

That's an entirely different question. I was actually asking about the music
because of linking issues. But you know, since you're using PPT 2003, it
doesn't really matter.

Regarding the WMA not playing, I'm going to guess it's a digital rights
issue. But maybe not. Where'd the file come from?

i hate to say it, but a cd. i'm making a memorial slide show for a colleague
whose husband passed away. it's one of his favourite pieces of music, and she
wanted it to play over a montage of photos of him. the sound worked when
another colleague inserted it on his machine. when he sent me the file, he
did so without including the clip. I tried re-inserting it, and that's where
I ran into difficulty.

If he didn't send you the clip, how are you reinserting it? Did you download
it from somewhere, or did he send the clip separately or something?

Anyway, try going to Start/Run and type in mplay32.exe Try the WMA there.
Does it play or not?

thanks for the condolences and all your help with this.

he sent it to me after, and i tried to reinsert it then, (Insert > Movies &
sounds > sound from file) but with no luck. then I had him reinsert it on his
machine using the file I previously saved to our shared drive (we're on a
network) and resave it. everything went fine and the clip played from his
machine. when I open it up on mine, it doesn't play from ppt. it does,
however, when I double click it from explorer and boots up the media player.
I even changed the properties so that it boots up MS windows media player
rather than RealPlayer, but, nope, no such luck. If I can't get it to work
here, I don't want to give it over and have it not play at the service.

To add to my previous post, please create a folder on your C drive. Call it
Test or something. So you'll have C:\Test.

Copy both the presentation and the WMA file to that folder.

Now go to Start/Run and type in mplay32.exe Try to play the WMA file that's
in your C:\Test folder. Does it play?

where do i find that?in ppt, or in explorer, or somewhere else?

thanks - I'm at home now, and I've got windows XP here. Here I can see what
you mean. at work we're running Professional or something else (we're on a
network) - the start button looks like win 98.

I think there's still a Run option when you click the Start button in Win98
or Win2000. You might try right-clicking the Start button -- Run might be a
choice there.
