Selecting Signature & Preserving File Lookup for Hyperlinks?????!?

MS Outlook 2003---
Our General Manager came to us (the IT dept) to allow her to use the
"normal" file browse utility to add a hyperlink to an e-mail within the
company to prevent sending 120Mb+ attachments to multiple people. We have
encouraged the staff to use hyperlinks instad with great success, but
nonetheless there is a problem.

She likes the simple format of the option to NOT use MS Word while composing
an e-mail because it allows her to easily choose a signature and enter it
when she desires (sometimes it is not desired to include one).

BUT, when this options is chosen and she clicks Insert > Hyperlink... It
only shows a single text box style for her to enter a path. She wishes to
view the file browsing capabilities of the Word editor.

I believed I solved her issue and chose to use the MS Word editor, which was
fine until she realized that you have to choose either a signature to
automatically insert, or none at all. When you have chosen none, it is an
arduous task for someone to have to find the signature and then copy and
paste it, especially since she has seven or eight different ones.

Any suggestions? Microsoft -- I hope you're listening! How about a little
CONSISTENCY please?

I am using MS Office 2007 Pro on my system as a testbed and I love it, but
to no surprise there is a major difference while using MS Word and not in
this version as well.

In Outlook 2007, Word is always the email editor and the Insert Signature command should always be available.

If you are using Word as your email editor (aka WordMail) in Outlook 2003, you will not have an Insert | Signature command like the regular Outlook editor. If you want to be able to insert a signature into a WordMail message manually, you can create an AutoText entry for each signature. You can then insert them with the Insert | AutoText command.

Or, create multiple signatures the normal way (Tools | Options | Mail Format) and make one the default. If you want to use a different signature for the current message, right-click the signature that Outlook inserted automatically. From the pop-up menu, select either the name of the signature you want to use or E-mail Signature to create a new one. I personally prefer this technique. This is also the technique you need to use if you want Outlook 2003 to automatically change your signature when you switch accounts on an unsent message.

Sue,

I thank you for your response. It was very informative, although I must
admit that it is a very simple and easy way to change signatures (the
right-click solution is what we wanted), it was almost hidden. A "smart tag"
type or possibly a faint outline around the signature would have been a bit
more helpful to me in this particular instance.

I believe Office 2007 is much further along the path and has eliminated much
of the "Old" ways of conducting business and does promote more productivity
but I really have to say there are still many hidden "features," or
"obstacles" that I feel could be more documented or easier to get help for.

Thank you very much.

P.S. The AutoText features are completely greyed out on this person's
instance of Outlook. I am not a proficient Microsoft Office user, so what
solution I have used is the one I have offered.

I've got a similar question.. I too have elected NOT to use Microsoft Word as
the e-mail editor, in the interest of simplicity and speed.

I still find it necessary to insert hyperlinks, in BOTH e-mails, and in TASKS.

I've found out the manual method of entering the hyperlink:
<FILE://here_is_the_file_path>

but it confounds me that there is extreme inconsistency with the 'Insert'
toolbar menu, as it differs depending on whether i am creating a Task or an
E-Mail.

When creating a new task, the insert menu only has three options: File,
Item, and Object (Why no option for hyperlink?)

When creating a new rich text e-mail, the insert menu has the above three
options, and adds a 'Signature' option. (again, why no option for hyperlink?)

when creating a new PLAIN text e-mail, the insert menu shows File, Item, and
Signature, as clickable entries, and "Horizontal Line' 'Picture' and
'Hyperlink' as greyed out entries.

Is there a reason for such insanity and inconsistency? if i can enter a
hyperlink manually using the <file://yaddayadda> method in all forms but
Plain Text, then why is the Insert>Hyperlink option not available in said
forms? Is this by design?

On a side note, Is there a method to automatically convert received RTF
e-mails to HTML when forwarding them? It appears the option is not even
available under the 'Format' menu to convert an RTF to HTML. This is
crippling my ability to forward embedded images as such, because apparently
oultook 03 can RECEIVE RTF with embedded images from a domino sender, but
cannot foward the same e-mail BACK to a domino recipient and have the
embedded pictures preserved/intact.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated~!
