selected color in theme overrides background in excel

Thanks in advance for any help given! I decided that I would use windows as
was intended and customize it; big freakin mistake! After choosing the
windows XP theme, I then selected Silver as my main color. After this, I
couldn't just leave well enough alone, so I changed the colors of the active
windows, borders, and so on.
One day I decide to bring home some assignments from my computer
applications class at the local Community College, and the Background Shading
that I had applied to the excel spreadsheats would not show up on the display
in the main(active) window. If I switch to the print preview, the background
shading is shown along with all font colors.
I have attempted to change back to the original theme, restore points as far
back as possible, but all to no avail. I signed in on the guest account and
boom! On the guest account it works just fine. This tells me the problem is
not with Excel but with the changes some moron (that would be ME) made to the
active windows, borders, and so on, in the themes. It seems that I saved my
choices into every one of the themes somehow because they are all set up the
same way.

Any suggestions before I use my $1200.00 .45ACP to blow a bunch of holes
into my $2500 Dell?

recon

Print preview and Print still work as expected. The colors are only missing on
the screen.

If this is a problem with all Excel files with coloured cells, the Windows OS
high contrast setting may be turned on. There is information in the
following MSKB article:

OFF: Changes to Fill Color and Fill Pattern Are Not Displayed

Thanks for the feedback.

Perhaps this little bug will be removed from Office 12 version.
