Select pages to print

When I receive a message I want to be able to choose to print only the latest
message or page. With all the replies and forwarding going on, I don't want
to have to print the whole history over and over again. It's useful to have
it on the same message for reference but for hardcopy filing, we don't need
to waste all those paper. How to do it?

Outlook 2007

Open the message and choose Actions>Open in Browser. You can then print a
portion of the message.

& Outlook 2003 on another machine

Change the message format to HTML and you be able to print a portion.

I am using Outlook 2007 and following below recommendation to specify page to
print. But I found another problem, it did not print the email header (which
is important when print out for archive).

Please advice.

I think this is not a proper way to open the message in bwoser and take a
print which will be useles since it will not show you the important details
like the names of receipeints, list of attachments, time & date of e-mail
etc.. Microsoft should do sumthing in this regard and need to pay attention
on this issue...

I don't know what would be Microsoft's policy behind this. Instaed of
facilitating their customers, they are not even giving freedom of printing
too!!!

I'm searching for a way to choose what pages to print from Outlook 2007. I
usually just want the first page. Not all odd or even. I can't believe it
is not an option to choose what pages to print! Come on Microsoft....

Open the message and click Actions>View in Browser Window. You should then
be able to print selections.

Ok, I didn't see open in a browser under Actions based on the reply to an
earlier poster, but I've figured out I have to double click to get the email
into another window than can do that.

This is a work around to a certain extent, although it seems to loose the
header info which often times I want for the time/date stamp. And it is a
work around to be sure. I sure hope there is a way for Microsoft to create a
patch to fix this soon.

Likely, I'll keep printing all pages until this is fixed. But I appreciate
the reply giving me a way to choose pages if I really need to.

Exactly. Notice I said "open the message". That's what double-clicking
does.

If I needed this functionality, I'd get a freeware PDF generator like
CutePDF, "print" the page to a PDF file, then use Adobe Reader to print the
portion of the message I want.

OP are the only two people thinking it should work differently I understand
it won't be fixed.

I honestly do not remember how Outlook 2003 handled this issue. I would be
interested to see if I could choose what pages to print with the prior
version or if this was changed with 2007. It's not such a big deal I'd
switch to a different program or go through the additional steps of a
workaround, but it is a pet peeve whenever I want to just print page 1 of a
multiple page email.

I'll have to find out how I can drop this one into the Microsoft Suggestion
Box.

Actually, it is similar. IE can print portions of an HTML message. In OL
2003, IE was the HTML rendering engine instead of Word, so all you had to do
was change the format of the message to HTML and then it would render with
IE and IE allows printing portions. WIth OL 2007, you first have to send it
to IE before IE can print a portion.

Yup, charge more for less. That's the direction these days. I'm
certain Microsoft could enable this feature, as it existed fully in
Outlook Express (the lighter version of Outlook - Go Figure!) and it
at least partially existed in Outlook 2002 (and maybe 2003). The
difference in 2002 was you could only print by page if the format was
HTML or Rich Text, which was easily changed by a simple pull down from
the default menus. Now you have to open the email (not just in
preview) and fish down a couple menu levels to open in browser (and
wait.........) for IE6 or God forbid IE7 to open, then print 1 page of
your lengthy email.

Thanks for making my life simple Microsoft! Where can I go today? Not
far as I'm tied to my email all day to print a page or two, while
trying not to waste paper, in my "paper-less" office!!!

If a poll was taken, I'll guess most people spend more time in Outlook
than in most office applications. And yet Oulook is the least
expensive of all the Office Applications (hmmm, might be a marketing
angle here). The marketing behind MS Office has always been to
integrate, simplify, and make the menus and actions as similar as
possible. So why stop with the application that I believe most people
spend the bulk of their day with???

This is untrue. Outlook Express has never been a "lighter version" of
Outlook.

It’s troublesome to say the lease when a functionality of an application
regresses in a new version. Microsoft needs to fix this lose of functionality
that existed in the prier version of the application. Thought: If Outlook
2007 can parse the email into even and odd pages, one would think it could
print selected pages.
