select one file and it selects all

I don't know if my keyboard or mouse got locked or what happened, but I'm
trying to select one folder on my desktop and it selects all. When I open one
(in opens all) and I'm trying to select a file and it selects all my files
under that folder. It asks me if I'm sure I want to open all 67 files and of
course I say no.

I know it must be something I touched, but I did restart the computer,
unplug the keyboard, I made sure the scroll lock is turned off. I can see a
lock light on the keyboard but nothing seems to turn it off.

Please help!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

Give the "Shift" key a good brisk tapping, sounds as if it may be stuck.

Shift + Left click = select all folders/files above and including the
folder/file clicked on.
