Seeking XP/Web network discovery & monitoring tool

Hello.

I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive XP/Web network discovery and
monitoring tool that does the following:

1) identifies computers on the same network segment by IP address, and
Windows computer/workgroup names

2) pops up alerts when selected IP's and DNS names are not accessible

3) for selected IP's and DNS names, tracks average ping times and
reports/alerts when average ping times are exceeded by a pre-determined
threshold

4) creates a simple graphical diagram of traceroutes to selected IP's and
DNS names

5) for selected IP's and Windows computer names on the same network
segment, 'sniffs' and selectively records network traffic/information

Did I miss anything? How much of this capability is beyond a "relatively
inexpensive" tool?

Thanks - Dave

Hi

For Number 1 you can use this free application,
http://www.softperfect.com/products/networkscanner/

The same site has other tools that can help in Network management (not
free).

Number 2,3,4. I am unaware of inexpensive Tool that can comply with your
Specs. part of what you are looking for can be done with this,
http://www.d3tr.de/index.html

Number 5, it cannot be done well on a peer to peer Network you need real
server topology (Win 2003) to obtain this info.

Dave,

For #1, I suggest either AngryIP Scanner, or SoftPerfect Network Scanner.

For #3 (maybe #2 too), I suggest PingPlotter.

For #4, I suggest either PingPlotter (chart based, repeating trace) or
VisualRoute (map based, one time trace)

For #5, I suspect Ethereal may work, but I have little experience with it.
