Is Norton Anti-Virus compatiable with Vista? On my old computer, I downloaded
Norton when I had Windows XP SP2. I had no problems. Is Vista Anti-Virus?

You can look for Vista compatible Symantec products here
http://www.symantec.com/index.htm

There are links for home and office products as well as a link to products
that can be upgraded to work with Vista.
You should install an antivirus product on Vista.

Thanks for your reply, Jim. Are the A.V. products you suggested, free? Which
one would you reccomend?

Norton is not free. You can try AVG. It is a pretty good AV and it is free. http://www.grisoft.com/

Well, I tried to install Norton and Vista wouldnt allow it. Norton was only
compatible Windows XP. Why wouldnt Vista have an Anti-Virus protection
programmed already along with the firewall, spyware.... I do not like this
new Vista or IE7....

Avast and AVG have free Vista compatible offerings. Both work fine.

None of the AV programs that were designed for XP will run on Vista.
Symantec does have Vista compatible apps.

AVG has a free version. I'm not sure where you are looking.

It alerts when there's a virus and also you can scheldue it to scan every
day and udates every day at lest once. It's a really good programme and it
is widely used accross the world. Very light on your system too. The next
one we are all waiting fro is the firewall from zonelabs. Register here and
they will notify you when its ready.

I am sticking to windows built in firewall meantime. it shoudl keep thigns
fine. especially if you ahve a router which will probably have a built in
firewall anyway.

That abiout covers you if you get a free spyware from lavasoft.com (adaware)
that completes free protection.

Only if it recognizes it, I would guess.

Don't rely too much on scans. Finding by scanning means your system is
already infected - in which case you cannot really rely on it.

Good.

What's the detection rate?
and it is widely used accross the world.

That does'nt mean anything.

For what reason exactly?

Protection from what? How about not installing adware at all? How
about thinking of how nasties get in in the first place and start
acting upon that?

I'M running Norton Internet Security 2007 and it works perfectly. Has
stopped a couple intrusions etc so far. Looks good working with VISTA.

I also can't understand why Vista doesn't have total inbuilt security, Norton
causes me immense problems, cannot get into my e-mail, have tried helpdesk
without success. Am thinking of upgrading to Vista but not if all these
problems, can anyone recommend a better antivirus compatible with Windows?
