Security updates won't install

L

Lee M.

I did a motherboard swap yesterday and an "in place" upgrade of XP with SP2
following instructions on the web. Everything seems to be ok except now the
security updates that automatic update is finding will not install. There
are a whole bunch, 20 or more queued up but everytime they try to install, a
message comes back saying they cannot be installed. Tney have tried to
install themselves 3 or 4 times with the same result. I did not consciously
change anything changed during the re-install and in fact, everything seemed
to be pretty much the same afterwards. Auto updates always installed fine
in the past. I haven't had any luck finding a solution with Google or on
the MS site. Suggestions?

Thanks.

For starters, click on Start/Run and enter Services.msc. Make certain that
the Background Intellegent Transfer Service is started.

Also check the Windows Update knowledge base at microsoft.com

It is. I discovered that I can download and install them individually but
what a pain that will be. I will try the update knowledge base. Thanks.
