Unable to install Quicktime after automatic updates downloaded security patch
KB9080531. This patch cannot be removed - what do I do? Now unable to use
brand new I-Pod and cannot download Quicktime because it says I already have
a newer version installed. Have removed all references to Quicktime from
the registry and C drive. Suggestions please....... do I need to re-install
Windows?

Polo,

Who says the update can not be removed ? -
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx
Under General Information expand Security Update Information then expand
Windows XP (all versions)
Removal Information

To remove this security update, use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.

System administrators can also use the Spuninst.exe utility to remove this security
update.
The Spuninst.exe utility is located in the %Windir%\$NTUninstallKB908531$\Spuninst folder.

Are you 100% certain that update is causing the issue ? Not sure if you
really need QuickTime or not, but there is an alternative for it:

QuickTime Alternative 1.77
