Security Center Firewall in XP Pro

For some reason, XP Pro security center will not let me enable the firewall.
I did have it enabled, along with having symantec antivirus software but
somehow, I got a trojan virus on my PC and now I keep getting the nag balloon
telling me that my pc is unprotected.

I went into safe mode, put in a recovery date of 2 weeks prior, rebooted,
ran the antivirus which did quarinteen the virus and also ran spyware program
but still cannot enable the firewall in the security center. In frustration I
downloaded zone alarm but the constant windows asking me to allow or deny
access are driving me crazy because most of the stuff it asks is foreign to
me.

Anybody have any idea how I can get back my XP firewall?

I can't really help except for moral support. I too had this problem and
counldn't find a way to get the XP firewall to again. I tried to reinstall
XP and it didn't help. I think that the software manufacturers are out to
get us.
