Secure Website and Time settings

Morecom Computers

Hi,

My Client is running Windows 98 (first edition) and
Internet Explorer 6.0 Service pack 1. We have installed
all updates until recently installing ZoneAlarm on the
machine. After this (or sometime in the interim), the
computer has lost access to secure website and to windows
update. Update reports that the "time is incorrect"
or "the user profile is corrupted", but user profiles are
not enabled and the time is correct. We even checked the
time with PrecisionTime, a global internet time checker.
SSL2.0 And SSL3.0 are installed, we have tried
reinstalling IE6, we tried enabling TLS1.0, we tried
searching the knowledge base, we tried downloading
critical updates from Microsoft Downlaod Centre, we tried
disabling ZoneAlarm, but secure sites are still not
available, and windows update still displays the said
error! Please help!

Replies preferred by email if possible, (e-mail address removed).

Otherwise reply here if you have anything that might be
of assistance. Thanks in advance

Update reports that the "time is incorrect"
or "the user profile is corrupted"

Is your error code 800C0008? There are more reasons
than those for that code. Search here:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/

or here:

http://groups.google.com/

with:

800C0008 OR 0x800C0008 author:MSFT OR MVP group:microsoft.*.windowsupdate

or go here:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate

If you haven't previously used Outlook Express as a newsreader
you may have to do some personalizing before posting with it.
If your current newsreader can not use that link
set the default server to: msnews.microsoft.com
and then try: instead.

If you can't use an NNTP newsreader but must use a web interface
try the new interface:

http://communities2.microsoft.com/c...supdate&cat=en-us-win-winserver&lang=en&cr=US

In case you want to find the same site with a different locale
(e.g. not EN-US) here are the steps I took to reach that one:
1. Alt-H,S
2. Microsoft.com Home (link at top right)
3. Communities (link on left column)
4. Newsgroups (link on left column)
5. [+] English
6. [+] United States
7. [+] Windows
8. [+] Windows Server
9. Windows Update
