Secure site (https) access

R

Randy Horton

I am running Windows 2000 and Internet Explorer 6.0, and
am unable to access secure (https) sites - I get a page
that says something like "the serever can not be found,"
along with several recommendations that don't help me. My
son runs the same software from his system and has no
problems, so I suspect my internet settings, but am
stumped as to where to begin. Any help will be greatly
appreciated.

I too am having this problem only after I had to download
Win 2000. I had problems on the PC so I re-loaded Win and
now I can't access https sites. Can anyone figure this out.
Thanks

Try logging on with safe mode with networking to see if problem persists. If it
does not then some startup program/process may be causing the problem and you
would have to troubleshoot with a tool similar to msconfig from XP that will
also work on W2K.

See the KB link below for many things to try. A personal firewall could be
blocking access if not configured correctly and it may also help to select
tools/internet options/advanced - restore defaults. Another common problem is if
your system time is off quite a bit, like more than a day [check your time zone
also]. Deleting temp internet files is also one of the first things to try. If
everything in the KB link fails, you may want to try an in place upgrade install
that will keep your data and applications intact, but require you to reapply
service pack and critical updates. --- Steve

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813444 --- applies to
W2K also.

install cd and product key
