searching for boot record

Norbert

Hi!

On my WinXp machine suddenly i get the following error:

"For Realtek RTL 8139 (x) PCI Fast Ethernet Controller
PXE-E61 test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF Exiting PXE ROM"

I DONNOT NEED THE ETHERENETCARD ANYWAY!!

BUT this error causes problems:

"Searching for boot record from SCSI ... Not found"

Nothing has been changed, no new hardware, everything works find with
a Linux Boot-CD (no linux installed)

Any ideas?

TIA, Beni

This has nothing to do with windows. Should boot ok with your windows CD too. That just means the CD is before the network card and both are before the hard drive in the computer's boot order. Read the computer's manual to see how to change.

Hi,

Is this an onboard NIC? if so disable it in the bios and you shouldn`t get
that error anymore.

Go into the BIOS and disable booting from the network (PXE) and any SCSI
devices.
