Need some laptop help

I picked up an older Toshiba M35X laptop that I just want to use for email
and Word/Excel but when I try to boot it just gives me an endless loop of
the following before windows even starts to load:

Intel UNDI PXE 2.0 Build 082

For Realtek RTL 8139(x)/8130/810X PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.13
(020326)

PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, Check Cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM

If I plug a network cable into the laptop and boot I get the following loop:

Intel UNDI PXE 2.0 Build 082

For Realtek RTL 8139(x)/8130/810X PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.13
(020326)

Client MAC address: (then the mac address) GUID: (then the guid) DHCP... and
it tries to search for a DHCP then gives me

PXE-E53: No boot filename received

PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM

I tried going into the BIOS to see if I could disable the Ethernet
Controller but it isn't listed. I even tried using the recovery disk that
came with the laptop but I get the following loop:

Start Recovery? I select yes, then it asks if I'm aware if it will erase the
HD and I select yes to continue then it just starts over again with the
first screen asking me if I want to start the recovery process.

I can't get past the Realtek warning at all... all I can do is get into the
BIOS and I can't see any help there. Any suggestions?

It sounds like it has been set up to "network boot". Check the boot order
in the BIOS and change it to point at a boot disk.
