Searching for boot record

E

Eddy Melsbach

One of my computers is searching for the boot record which it cannot find. I
thought that the hard drive may have stopped working. However I took it and
installed it onto another computer and I was able to see the drive in its
entirety. I put it back in the original computer and rebooted, and got the
same message "Searching for boot record not found".

Wondering if the Bios got messed up by a hacker order is it the Mother
Board. Can anyone advise me on how to repair?

Thanking you in advance,

Eddy

A possibility is that the booted partition has lost its active partition
marker. Try a Win98 or ME startup floppy, and use its FDISK to set
partition active on the relevant one. Or you can do that from a boot
of the XP CD to recovery mode, and use the diskpart command, but it is
clumsy in comparison
