Search won't work

G

Guest

I added a search box to a page of my friends FP site. FP extensions are
installed. Didn't work so I called GoDaddy who "flipped the switch" and
enabled the search to work on his site. However, the search function is
still not working. They said I needed to republish the site, which I did,
but that didn't fix the problem.

See http://www.smartparents.info then click on "Search this site" at the
bottom left hand corner. When I search, I get an error below with some
strange string and "No documents found." When the web host tried, they said
they were asked to login to the site (???) and that beyond enabling the
search to work, there was really nothing else they could do to troubleshoot
in on their end.

Can anyone help me figure this out?

Thanks!

Your host (notorious for problems w/ the FP SE) does not have the permissions set correctly in the site
The error is that the FP SE don't have rights to the _vti_txt folder and the file that stores the site search index
Remove all spaces from file/folder names
(rename Search%20This%20Site.htm to say Search_This_Site.htm)
- can break the FP SE for forms
Try opening your site online in FP and running a Tools recalculate hyperlinks
- may not help because of the permissions issue
Also See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q170975/

Thanks Stefan - Now, GoDaddy's response is:

"It appears that you are receiving this error due to the fact that the file
'All.dct' does not exist in your hosting account at this time. Please upload
the file again and attempt the process again."

Again, the error says: Error from search: can't open the word hash file
/var/chroot/home/content/g/e/o/georgegoltz/html/_vti_txt/default.wti/All.dct

Am I supposed to know where to get this All.dct file and how to get it in
this default.wti folder???

Thanks!

Hi Kathleen,

Yes, I tried that yesterday and no change. GoDaddy still hasn't gotten back
with me. It seems as if they think this is a FP issue. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Beverly,

What OS is the server running on? If Windows, then the host either need to enable Index Server and
create a Index Catalog for your site or they need to disable the ability to use the Search
component, since if the server is Windows 2003 only Index Server is support, not the old FP search
component, which is still used when hosted under Unix/Linux or optional under Windows 2000 Server.

Hi Thomas,

They are on the GoDaddy economy Linux hosting plan. Should this feature
work on a Linux OS?

Thank you in advance!

The feature should work as long as GoDaddy has enabled/configure the extensions and permissions to
allow it to work.

Many have post here with various problem with their FP extension enable site working on GoDaddy. The
recommendation, is to find another web host.

OK, GD suspected that the all.dct file had disappeared so they had me
uninstall and then reinstall the FP extensions. NOW, when I run a query, the
error is gone :) BUT now, it's not finding any results for data that is

I have done that a few times but I still am not getting any results. Is this
a common problem with the Search feature? Any other ideas why it's not
working? I would try to find another Search feature but my client is
specifically asking for the Frontpage search utility. Any help greatly
appreciated.

|I have done that a few times but I still am not getting any results. Is
this
| a common problem with the Search feature? Any other ideas why it's not
| working? I would try to find another Search feature but my client is
| specifically asking for the Frontpage search utility. Any help greatly
| appreciated.
