Search with Address Bar

Colin

When I go into the Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tabs
of Internet Explorer, And it gives the options to "go to
most likely' 'Display results and go to most likely' Just
display the results' 'do not search from address bar'
My browser defaults to "Do not Search from...." Even when
I change it it automatically goes back to the other.
Now when I type in a name "eg; ASUS" all I get is a blank
page. I got rid of the LOP pages but now it won't search.
Any ideas, answers, suggestions, fixes would be widely
appreciated. Thank You

You can reset the IE search/start defaults by installing
%windir%\inf\iereset.inf. Right-click the file and select "install".
Then you should be able to access your settings and change it to
something else. Google has instructions and a .reg file that will set
things to search google.

Kent,

Is this intended to be anything different from using
Tools, Options, Programs, Reset Web Settings...

Mike Burgess cautioned me about suggesting that
since a hijacker could override it too. I was assuming that he meant
that the .inf file would have been corrupted but perhaps all they can do
is point to their own .inf file in a different location?

I have tried the reset, I have tried the spybot, I have
tried reinstalling IE6 and some things are repaired.
LOP.com has a remove program which I also ran and still
the problem persists. I cannot search from the address bar.
I even ran the google.reg but when I search I get a blank
page now and need to use an actual seach engine. It
defaults on it's own to "don't search from address bar" I
have a feeling it is something in the registry that tell
it the default is turned on to that one and needs to be
changed from that end somewhere.
