Search from address bar

Internet Explorer Ver 6, Windows XP Home.
If I type "zyx" into the address bar it says "search
for "xyz" but when I
hit go, I get error "The page cannot be displayed". In
other words, search
from address bar doesn't work. In tools/internet
options/advanced/search
from the address bar/ I have "just go to the most likely
site" checked. If
I click on the "magnifying glass, Search" the box on the
left opens and
entering "xyz" here produces what one would expect...
suggested site links.
I run Norton AntiVirus and Ad-aware 6 without complaint
from either. Any
one have any ideas where my search from address bar
went?? TIA
