If I use "start search" and look for something that might be in program
files/email/web history/etc then I can type in a couple of chars and it's up
there in the results.

I have a folder of MP3 music and if I search for something (in the title) I
get no results.
The folder is marked as "Index this folder for faster searching" so why
does it not get included in the search?

Did you goto Control Panel/Folder Options/Search Tab and tell it to search
for file name and content?

Vista search is an UTTER FAILURE and a piece of you know what, comparing to
good old WindowsXP.
XP was slower but it found things, the funny thing is that NOBODY cares for
speed when search doesn't find what you KNOW exists!

maybe Windows7 went back to XP style, I don't know.
But for people who got fedup with Vista search there's this:

goto www.mythicsoft.com and get their FileLocatorPro.
It's a common replacement for Vista crap
