Search is worthless!

In OutlookExpress, when I searched for a newgroup item, it would bring me to
the post in the actual list, with the surrounding threads, so I can see
exactly the relationship with my search and the thread. MS Mail opens a
seperate search box, that gives me NO IDEA of the relationship of the
searched item with the surrounding threads. I can't see the previous or
following thread.

MS, why would you change something that worked so well??

Oh well, off to find a replacement newsreader.

Check out SeaMonkey - the browser/mail/news suite
Or Thunderbird, the mail/news separate that is often used alongside Firefox.

Mike,

Maybe I don't understand what you are complaining about, but I'm not sure I
see your problem. While reading your message in Windows Mail, I typed in
"Worthless" in the Search box in the upper right corner, and it opened a
separate result box and the only message in it was your original, with all
the other replies to it. I expanded it and I could see the three (so far)
entries, exactly what I expected.

Are you wanting to see the entry and the surrounding (by date) other
messages or just the ones related to your search? If I am misunderstanding
the problem, let me know. Otherwise, I think it's a pretty good way to
search.

Maybe if you try to search for "Vista" ...
Maybe then you will see the issue referred to by Mike...

So, am I missing something about the way search works in MS Mail compared to
OE??

As an example, I finally decided to use MicroPlanet Gravity as my
newsreader. When I do a search for matheny, it finds them all in a
search window - all I have to do is click on Go to article, and it
places me in the thread so I see all relevant posts, before and after
mine. I CANNOT get MS Mail to do this!! ( and at this point, I really
don't care - I can set up Gravity to work and look very similar to OE6 -
NGs at top, threads in middle, view pane at bottom)

Thanx Microsoft for giving 3rd party vendors a boost!
