Search function quit working.

When I click the search function nothing happens. Not only does the search
window not pop up, the start button freezes. This just happened and I am
unaware of anything "new" that I did. I tried using the system restore but
it will not go to a previous restore point. Any suggestions?

Right click any file not a shortcut and hit "properties" at the bottom then
click advanced, down under "attributes". It will have a check box for
indexing this file and if you change it will ask if you want to apply to all
files...I dislike indexing service so I choose to uncheck the box and apply
to all files and dont choose to compress files (next line down) because if
your hard drive gets corrupted you'll never regain compressed files. Better
to eliminate unused programs from add/remove programs(carefully) then use
"disk cleanup" under Accessories, System tools, in progams under start menu.
How much free space do you have and what drive are you running on?
