Search Engine not Responding

I had to uninstall Internet Explorer 7.0 Beta 3 and go back to Internet
Explorer 6.0 SP1, as some of the HP printer software is incompatible with it.
Since then everytime I try to search for a file on the hard drive, there's no
action whatsoever and the "not responding" shoes up on title bar of the
window.
Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks Will for your reply.

I've followed your instructions. The install went without any errors.
Rebooted the machine. Tried searching for a file. Immediately the same
happened. The "not responding" on the title bar of the search window along
with the freeze of the animation. Any other thing I could try? Everything
else is working just fine.
Thanks again

Will Denny,

The unistall of Internet Explorer 7.0 Beta 3 wasn't smooth at all. It hang
half way. I cheched microsoft website on this issue from another machine and
it was suggested that I removed any sound schemes. I did so and retrying the
uninstall on the machine in question from the Add/Remove programs on the
control panel, this time apparently the uninstall succeeded. Obviously the
restore of IE 6.0 SP1 was not 100% as this search problem started accuring.
Is there a way of either completing the unistall of IE 7.0 or the install of
IE 6.0 without having to reinstall Windows XP Pro SP2? I have the original
CD, but if possible I would like to avoid that.
