When I try performing a search from the Start Menu (Start
Menu --> Search --> For Files and Folders), I get no
response, and the Start button on the task bar remains
depressed momentarily not allowing me to do anything until
the Start button is freed up. There's not even an hour
glass appearing. If I perform a Search say from a folder
or My Computer, no problem, works like a charm. And,
between about 4 different profiles (users) on the machine,
this problem exists for 3 users and only for one of the
profiles does it seem to be working correctly. I'm not
sure what is going on here??

Hi!
Disable indexing service and check whether it solves the issue or not.
Start>Control panel>Administrative Tools>Services>Double click on
Indexinf Services>Properties>Make the startup type disable>ok/apply

O.k., I temporarily disabled indexing service but this
didn't seem to help. And I checked out the web site and
tried out what they recommended, but this didn't seem to
work neither. The thing is, the search for files or
folders does work in one of the user accounts residing on
this computer, just not with the other user accounts. And
I'm taking it all of the user accounts share most of the
same files to make this search feature work. And the
search feature works from within MyComputer and any
folder, just doesn't seem to be responding from the Start
menu. Thanks for your help.

Kelly,

Thanks for the tip, however, this didn't seem to work
neither. I went to line 148 from the website and set all
Search options to Active, but no luck.

Hi Rick,

Did you try setting all Search options to Active on that account/profile?
Line 148:

If this is not the case, we can verify reg keys. Good luck!
