Search Companion is completely FKd

D

Dave Clayton

When I try to do a search for files, I get an error msg. to the effect that
"a file required to run Search Companion is missing, please run set-up."
Problem is, I can't re-run set-up,this is an older machine and between
re-installing all the software and downloading updates I've already spent
over 10 hours working on it. I simply do not have the time to do this again.
The Microsoft Support Site identifies the exact text of the above error msg
But, offers downloading of SP1 as the solution/ WRONG. The thing worked
before I downloaded and installed SP1, and now it don't work. They also
offer a 500+Kb file called Q319949_WXP_SP1_x86_ENU.exe as a solution But,
when I downloaded it and tried to run it I got an error msg that said "This
program can only be run if Service Pack 1 has NOT been installed. So, I'm
completely STUCK at this point and would be grateful for ANY suggestions.
Thanx
