search button changed to google

Somehow my search button (internet explorer6)has changed from the windows
search to google search. I hate it, and I hate that google somehow managed
to highjack my machine. I do have all MS critical updates and NIS2004. How
can I change the search button engine back to something nice and how do I
stop google from doing this again?

Google is the absolute best search engine on the internet. I'd keep it if I
were you. But if you need to change it, there should be a customize feature
in the search pane in IE.

Oh I do like google. But only in the main window, not in the search window.
First the google pane does not fit right in the search window, and then when
I click on a link the link opens up also in the search window. They may
have a good search engine, but the windows integration sucks. I ended up
fixing it by opening up regedit and deleting google keys. But I still
wonder how google appropriated my search button without permission.

Ok makes sense. Did you install the google toolbar/popup blocker by any
chance?

If you installed the Google Toolbar (Pop-Up Stopper), it will make it the
default search engine unless you tell it not to.
