Search assistant

Hi
My search assistant stopped working ages ago which is very frustrating. I
have followed several solutions where other people have had the same problem
but none has worked for me. Anyone know a foolproof method to sort this
out? I'm running XP pro SP2

Reinstall the Search Companion Files:

1. Log on to the computer by using an account with administrator permissions.
2. Click Start, click Run, type: %systemroot%\inf , and then click OK.
3. Locate the "Srchasst.inf" file.
4. Right-click the "Srchasst.inf" file, and then click Install. This reinstalls the files
that Search Companion uses.

NOTE: You may need your Windows XP CD-ROM to finish installing Search Companion.

Thanks for your reply

I have tried this solution in the past. I receive the an error message
whilst reinstalling the files "setup cannot copy msgr3en". I do have the
file but it simply refuses to copy it.

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System and
Application logs for the time the error occurs and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.
