Search Assistant and Quick Launch settings not sticking

1. Windows Search Assistant keeps loading even though it's been
supposedly disabled in the registry "run" key as well as unselected in
the right-click context "toolbar -> Search Assistant" menu.

2. The quick launch bar is collapsed - far left - on every bootup and
when expanded does not stick with that setting. "Lock" doesn't work on
next boot either ..

I've run SpyBot S/D and "PestPatrol" .. nothing found.

Suggestions ?? Thanks

The Search Assistant bar is a malware. Type the command in RUN box.
Regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll

Then, rename C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll to old_omniband.dll and restart Windows.

Download all the spyware cleaners, UPDATE and run them.
Lavasoft Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
SpyBot S&D - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder : http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
Online Spyware scan: Do you have parasites?: http://aumha.org/a/noads.php

Reboot and check if the QuickLaunch preferences are saved. If not, apply this VBS:

Line 164. Restore Taskbar to Default Functionality

Got rid of the search ok, thanks.

However, the quick launch is still not fixed. Rebooted and it's
completely collapsed now and have to re-check the toolbar/quicklaunch
and even then it's still semi-collapsed, not fully expanded. Trying
suggestions in the other reply now, thanks

Nothing I've tried thus far has fixed the collapsed quick launch bar on
startup ... :-(
