Search application keeps crashing

Whenever I use the "Search" function it keeps crashing. Here's what I
get:
Window Title: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an
unusual
way. Please contact the application's support team for more
information.

When I click "OK", the Search windows goes away.

Now, this didn't start happening until I had contacted Microsoft
support after
automatic updates said that update KB944338 keeps failing to install.
The support
person replied: "This issue is most likely caused by the incorrect
file version of Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll. To troubleshoot our
issue, I suggest we perform the following steps to download the
Windows Script 5.7 for Windows XP to manually update the files
Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll."

The download information was:
Windows Script 5.7 for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...25-d896-482e-a0d6-524e7e844d81&DisplayLang=en

I performed the steps as requested. After this installation KB944338
never came up again as needing to be
installed on my PC.

My assumption is that this action has a bearing on why the Search
fails, but not actually certain.

Any suggestion?

Thank you.

Kelly,

I run SuperAntiSpyware at least weekly along with Spybot Search and
Destroy and AdAware 2007. I make sure that all definitions are updated
prior to running. I ran all of these late Saturday and finished Sunday
morning. If these found anything, it was only tracking cookies, they
didn't report any other infection.
