Seagate Scorpion 24 DDS3 Tape Drive

I have a Seagate model STD224000N 24 Gb DDS3 4mm DAT Tape drive. It
used to work find under windows xp. Now windows is not fully
recognizing it. In the device manager it shows the drive but it has an
exclamation mark on it. Under properties it says Windows successfully
loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware
device (Code 41). I bought another identical tape drive and it does
the same thing.

I tried a diagnostic called sgtape21 I got from seagate and also Xtalk
Management console also from seagate. Both of those programs can read
and write to the drive ok.

Like I say, it used to work and I hadn't used the drive for some months
so I don't know of anything peculiar that was done to the system when
it stopped working.

It's scsi and another scsi device works fine.

I finally had to format my hard drive and reinstall windows xp. That
fixed it. The trouble is I don't know what install caused it and it
could happen again.
