Tape drive not found

I am using Windows XP SP 3.

I have been using an Adaptec SCSI card for several years to access various
tape drives which are connected singly as needed.

The Device Manager sees both the SCSI card and the tape drive. However, when
I attempt to connect to the tape drive either through my tape conversion
program or the Microsoft backup utility, no tape drive is found.

Any Suggestions?

Have you tried the device troubleshooting wizard? Have you tried
reinstalling the driver for the tape drive? (This may be mentioned in the
troubleshooting wizard itself.)
