SD cards and music

I have a desktop unit with Windows XP Home Edition and use a card reader
into a USP slot to view pictures from my digital camera. Can I use this set
up to put music on to an SD card. If so, I will be really grateful if
anyone can please tell me how to do this - I am not a computer whizz so
simple instructions will be appreciated. Also, I have a new laptop with
Windows Vista Home Premium and its own SD slot - will it be same procedure to
put music on an SD card with this machine.

An SD card is an essentially universal storage medium. It may be slower than
a hard disk. Under both versions of Windows the card reader behaves just
like any disk station, accessible through some drive letter (like E: or
whatever).

The card should be "hot swappable" (taking no precautions), but I prefer the
safer way of using "Eject". This function is likely to be accessed through
Start | My Computer, then right-click on the drive letter to get its
context-menu, then select "Eject".

You could use such a card to transfer files between the computers if no
network is available or if they are not up at the same time.
