What about this?
The Primarary DMA transfer it is Not available ! <=== Need to fix
this
This is what I found:
In 0001
MasterIdDataCheckSum : REG_DWORD : 0x1834d
In 0002
MasterIdDataCheckSum : REG_DWORD : 0x1f834
SlaveIdDataCheckSum : REG_DWORD : 0xfbf3
Deleted the REG_DWORD values in 0002, rebooted ---> No change
The same values were reinstated.
Save this key -- highlight and then [File, Export] -- as something like
"DMA". (It will be saved as DMA.REG in a folder you specify.)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Then delete these "values": MasterIdDataCheckSum and
SlaveIdDataCheckSum
And reboot.
Short of changing the motherboard, anything I can try ?
Let's get this DMA business fixed first. Check out what's the latest in
Via Bus Master IDE Controller.
Done it. Upon reboot the same values were re-installed and no change at all.
The DMAs for the two drives are reset as per
http://www.adriansrojakpot.com/Other_Articles/Win2K_Tips/IDE_DMA/IDE_DMA.htm
Via Bus Master driver update was applied recently. It didn't make a
difference. During trouble shouting, the system found another driver closer
match, perhaps the older version !!!
The BIOS shows PIO enabled and UDMA enabled as well.
One thing I am considering is a clean install of W2K.
What are the chances after a formating the hard disk that it will recognize
the W2K CD ?
Can't afford to be without a PC/Internet connection.
I have the W2K four emergency floppies, and the Win98 startup floppy.
This time however, I prefer to do FAT formating vs NTFS actual for the the
simple reason if I boot from Win98 floppy I can see the HD contents.
TIA
