Scrn Print and paste into PP

Guest

I have read all related threads, but nothing works. I want to capture screen
images and paste into PP. Have tried pressing Ctrl and Scrn Print then
pasting in PP - but the Paset option is grayed out. I have tried pressing
Ctrl Alt Scrn Print - but same happens. I have tried going into Tools,
Options, View tab and checking the Drawings box and unchecking the icture
Placeholders box. It's the same every time. Someone mentioned about saving
things as a Jpeg - I have no idea what this is or how to do it. If anyone has
an idiots guide, I would really really be thankful.

My employer will not buy any extra sofware.

Canm this be done?

Please help!

Abfabrob,
Just use the key Print Screen for the whole of your screen, and
Alt+PrintScreen for the active Window only.
You should be able to paste. Be aware that this may make your PPTfile much
much bigger. Better paste your image in an appropriate drawing program
(usually there is a paste button, if not use the menu Edit and paste from
there), this could even be Paint. Personally I use Irfan View which can be
downloaded for free. And save there in jpg, png or other format . This will
keep your pptfile of a reasonable size.
Once your printscreen is saved insert in Powerpoint using Insert - picture
from file.

I have done this, but it pasted a long thin white box with black outline in
PP. In this box to the very left, it says "locate Whiteboard". I have no idea
what this is or what it means.

Thanks for your reply though.

Abfrarob,
When you hit the PrintScreen button and activate the taskpane Clipboard in
Powerpoint (PPT2002/2003) is there a thumbnail of your printscreen in the
pane? Can you click on it and insert?
I have heard something about a whiteboard in relation to net meeting. Maybe
someone else will know more about it.

There is a free screen capture program that will involve extra steps, but
may simplify your frustration. This utility will capture screen and save as
a file on the computer. It does not seem to understand some color settings
so check your captures carefully.

You may also want to explain to your boss that your time is his/her money
and a couple of bucks for software may save much more on payroll. SnagIt is
a much better option, if you can get the boss to pick up the tab.

As an aside, Luc, this shouldn't be a problem. Screenshots on the clipboard
are just bitmaps, not OLE objects, so they don't carry the size and performance
penalty that copy/paste from other applications may. But still ...
Better paste your image in an appropriate drawing program

Yes. Because it gives you the opportunity to crop out unwanted stuff and to
save the image as a file so you have it for later use.
