Not likely, but I guess anything is POSSIBLE! I always assemble the
basic components while the MB is NOT mounted into a case. That way you
know that the case is not entering any problems such as shorts to the
underside of the MB. Also, the accessibility to connectors and such is
better than once it is in the case. Once it is working properly, take
the components and CAREFULLY mount them in a case.
I think it was the screw, or maybe it was touching the case somewhere I
didn't see. I pulled it out, put it back in with a new screw for the hole
and it worked. Thank god, don't need a new mobo.
Well as long as it's working that's all that counts, but i'd be taking
a closer look at why it didn't work before... perhaps you have an
extra, unused standoff shorting on the back of the board or the case
(or board) has a geometry defect in that it puts something against a
standoff that shouldn't be. Those are the types of situations when it
helps to have a few spare paper-fiber washers lying about.
One screw missing should NOT make any difference. More likely you have
something UNDER the board that shouldn't be there and your shuffling around
has moved stuff to a safe place (for now)
