Hi all,

I am looking for a screensaver where I can set a password that is
DIFFERENT to the log in password (Win2000Pro)

I find lots of free ones but they all use the system password.

any ideas ?

This is such an unusual requirement that I think it will be difficult to
find.

The reason is that my son knows the system password :)

And Windows2000Pro is such a bitch as regards passwords and stuff that I
am EXTREMELY reluctant to go messing around with it.

I don't mean to argue with you if you're dead-set on the screen-saver
idea but, (for any acct w/admin rights on Win2k) the procedure for
changing passwords and permissions is pretty straight-forward:

click start->settings->control panel->users and
passwords-><account>->set password

Craig

I accept that Craig and I understand if you think I'm being a twirp
about it - but I have had about five years of experience with W2k and
every time I have gotten involved with passwords and security it has
ended in tears and reformatting :-(

Is there no way of blocking access to the PC when I am away with a
different password ?

I though there was something that could be launched with a hot-key ...?

Screen savers are written for Windows to run and password protect. You
could write your own that's password protected, or you could just
write a password program that runs the screen saver and have Windows
run the password program. (A screen saver is just an .exe file.)

Brilliant Azz.... got it and it is working brilliantly !!

Couple of questions for you then...

Can it be launched with a hotkey?
Does it have to show a password prompt box?

It installs into the Windows Screensaver Control panel.

It operates as a normal screensaver with a large moving analog clock and
a message across the bottom of the screen. Not very advanced graphics.

But when you move the mouse it asks for a password (that can be
DIFFERENT from the system password) and bingo you're in.

I cannot figure if it allows a 'no password' option. To be honest it
wouldn't be worth it - because there are a lot better clock screen
savers out there.

Also "In addition, you can allow people to leave you messages in the
marquee during the program work in the full-screen mode."

Many thanks for the response.
