Screensaver Problems

Guest

For some reason, since about a month ago, I am unable to get my screensaver
to activate when scheduled. My current settings set the screensaver to come
on after 10 mins and the screen to blank after 30 mins, with standby after 1
hr. The screen will blank and the system go into standby at the appropriate
times, but the screensaver never starts.
The tab is not greyed and I have tried every available screensaver. Any ideas?

Some programs stop the screen saver from activating. (ie.burning software).
I would start there (go to your task manager and view what is running)
this should get you the program causing this isue.

Troubleshooting Screen Saver Issues in XP

Posting from another user by the name of David:
â€I figured out what the problem is. It's the Microsoft Wireless Mouse. If I switch
the mouse to one with a tail the screensaver works.â€
then David posted again
â€I got a fix. I changed to connection to the computer using the USB to PS2 adapter
that came with the mouse. Now I get the screensaver. I would be interested to find
out why this works.â€

Another checkpoint - make sure that a program is not causing the computer to remain
active. You may have a program running in the background that springs into life when
the computer is idle.

This was very helpful, to a point. When checking those registry entries, all
seemed well with the entries I was to check, but I noticed one (scrnsave.exe)
was set to a screensaver I don't even have. I tried changing the name to one
I have, as well as trying it without one at all.

Alas, even after a reboot, the screensaver will still not turn on. Any other
ideas??
