Screensaver and Screen Power Off

If I set a screensaver and then any time after that for the screen to switch
off evertything works except when the screen blanks it immediately comes back
on to the desktop. Then the screensaver comes on after the correct time, the
screen blanks after the correct time and the desktop appears again. The loop
keeps going.

If I set the screen to blank before the screensaver (or if no screensaver is
set) the screen blanks and powers off fine. Is there something obvious or
has somebody seen this before?

XP Home SP2, Sempron 3.3GHz, 512MB RAM.

Might try checking your monitors power settings. Go into where you configured
your screen saver, and under the Monitor power section click the "Power..."
tab. Once that comes up it'll show the current settings configured for your
monitor. You can select a certain power scheme if you need the monitor to
turn off to save power. Just check and make sure under the Turn off monitor
section that it is not set for 1 Minute for example, because that may be the
problem.

Sorry if it wasn't clear - I am in the monitor power settings already. i
want a screensaver to run after say 20 minutes, then the screen to power off
after a total of say 45 minutes. At the moment the screensaver runs ok but
at 45 minutes the screen goes blank very briefly then reverts back to the
normal desktop. Then the screensaver/power off cycle starts again. The
result is the screen does not power off as intended. If no screensaver set
the screen powers off after whatever time I set (of no activity). Also if
you set the screen to power off before the screensaver is due to start also
no problem.

This behaviour occurs on all Users and with any screensaver in use.
