Screen suddenly rotated 90 degrees

I'm running Windows XP home and suddenly everything rotated 90 degrees with
the taskbar now located on the right side of the screen. This happened when
I let a book I was reading accidentally sit on the keyboard and it seems to
have depressed several keys at the same time. When I say everything is
rotated, I'm including the wallpaper and anything that is displayed. To
view the screen, I have to rotate my head 90 degrees to the left.

I have never heard about this happening. I tried rebooting but it is still
rotated. HELP!!

Open your Display Properties, go to SETTINGS, then to the display adapter and see if you have the
options to rotate it back. Some video card drivers have this feature so that users with the
notebook computers can rotate their monitor. I don't have that feature so I can't tell you what
keys will do this task, but their are typically keys combinations that initiate this task.

Thanks. I took a look at the adaptor properties and can't find any that
will rotate the display. I tried several different display modes and the
display is still rotated. Damn hard to get use to I might add!

If you scan this newsgroup for posts whose subject lines
include the word "upside" (as in upside down) then you
will find several similar problems reported quite recently.
Here is the reply to one of them, provided by Carey Frisch:

You need to tell us what brand of video card or adapter you have.
If you happen to have a NVIDIA card or adapter, right-click on
your desktop and select:

Properties > Settings > Advanced > GeForce (tab) > NVRotate
and change the setting to "Landscape (0 degree rotation)".

You may also be able to avoid a stiff neck by using the
System Restore feature, taking the machine back a
few days.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Your are 'DA MAN. That worked! My
neck is slowly relaxing as I can now watch the display normally.

So what are the odds of hitting that key combination accidentially?

HaHaHa, my wife's computer did the same thing and we had to update her video
driver before we found it.
You can hit the same combination of keys and by hitting the right, left ,
down and up arrows to turn your screen all different directions.
I think this has something to do with 3 dimension displays.

Have fun,

The Intel Extreme Graphics controller in my computer has a utility for
rotating the display screen, and hotkeys for using it. Try hitting
Ctrl+Alt+ArrowUp for getting the normal display back.
