Screen size smaller on boot up?

My new HP laptop has an interesting quirk. When I boot up, the boot screen
is reduced to a small portion of my display. Then when WinXP loads it goes
to full screen. Also, when I run DOS programs like Drive Image it uses the
smaller display.

Any way I can fix this?

This may be caused by the video modes stored in the monitor. Newer
monitos can keep settings for different video modes. Check the manual
of your monitor for details.
If you adjust the screen settings while in that video mode, the
settings should be kept.
