It is common for this to happen because the wireless devices regularly
poll the computer for their connectivity. AFAIK there is no workaround,
but since I don't use wireless keyboard/mice, I'm not sure. I suppose
you could disconnect the wireless devices, but that seems a little
extreme just to run a screensaver.
Thanks for the replies
Yes I have installed the latest drivers. I have a feeling this known
problem between microsoft and Dell because Dell runs a programme in the
background. So still hopeful as it is a brilliant keyboard and mouse and I
would hate to take it back. Bob
If anybody is interested I now know what caused the screen saver not to run.
It was the google deskbar (the new one with sidebar) I switched off ehtray
in the startup tab of msconfig to find the answer....It looks as if this is
the item that starts up google deskbar. So finally it would seem the reason
my screensaver didnt work was because I had connected a wireless keyboard
and mouse and allowed google deskbar to run on start up. I wonder if the
powers at microsoft and google will sort it out!! Bob
