I am in process of changing from 800 X 600 to 1024 X 768
on a 17" monitor. I have increased the DPI setting to
150% of normal. The problem is that some sites are only
using about 80% of the screen horizontal (msn.com,
msnbc.com, microsoft.com). Other sites use the full screen
(yahoo.com, google.com). How can I correct this?

You can't. When a web developer builds a web page, they don't know what you
might have your screen resolution set at. The most common setting (for home
users) right now is 800 x 600 so, most web sites are built to be 800 pixels
wide (actually a little less than that).

If you have your screen resolution set higher than 800 x 600, you will see
some "dead" space (usually on the right) of many web sites. This is normal.
Welcome to 1024 x 768!!
